Pakistani government should provide free homes
Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (Food, Clothing and Shelter)
‘Roti kapada aur makaan’ or food, clothing and shelter are the basic rights of every human being in this world. Many countries in the world provide these facilities to general public. Governments collect tax from rich people and distribute it to poor people in form of benefits. Government housing is included in the national policies of western countries.
No housing assistance in Pakistan
Pakistan is the land of pure but the fast growth rate of inflation & population has forced a common Pakistani to live hand to mouth. Half of the population in Pakistan cannot afford two meals a day. 50 million Pakistanis are living in the houses that have no toilets or proper kitchens. Many people in Pakistan cannot afford to rent a decent house. They are forced to live in small & unhygienic houses. There is no government housing assistance in Pakistan. Many people are paying larger part of their incomes to rent houses.
Free home for every Pakistani
Pakistani government should provide free homes to all citizens of Pakistan, who have no homes or cannot afford rents. Pakistani government should include housing in the infrastructure developments. Like local development authorities, government of Pakistan should introduce local housing departments to provide housing assistance. Free homes can be provided according to the circumstances of each family. Free homes in Pakistan can be provided in two ways:
People who can pay some amount of rent
In the first category are the people who can afford to pay some amount of rent but need government assistance. People who have low wages fall in this category. Government of Pakistan should provide homes to these people on discount rates by charging some amount of rent. This will help the low wagers in Pakistan to have access to decent housing.
People who cannot pay any amount of rent
In the second category are the people who cannot afford any amount of rent and need free homes for living. Widows, divorces, handicaps, unemployed and old people fall in this category. Government of Pakistan should provide homes to these people free of cost for living. This will help the poor people in Pakistan to have access to decent housing.
Conclusions:
Due to high inflation & population growth rate, it is very hard for a common Pakistani to buy or rent a house in the private sector. People just need the government assistance. We should start government housing in Pakistan for all those people who have no homes of their own and even cannot afford to pay rents. Government of Pakistan should also include housing in the infrastructure developments. This is the right time to start providing decent housing in Pakistan, otherwise housing problem will increase with the passage of time.
