Orange Line Metro Train coaches reach Lahore
Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) is the flagship project in Lahore to provide the world-class public transportation. Three coaches and two engine of Orange Line Metro Train have reached Lahore from China. OLMT will import 27 sets of 5 cars each China. 23 train sets will reach Lahore by the end of this year.
As per Khawaja Ahmed Hassan, chairman of Orange Line Metro Train Steering Committee, approximately 72% construction project of OLMT has been completed. The rest of the work will be completed soon and it’s the aim of Punjab Government to make sure that OLMT is operational by end of the year. Project will improve Lahore’s public transportation.
OLMT is part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is itself a part of One Belt One Road Initiative. OLMT is developed to provide efficient public transportation system for the provincial capital; Lahore. LDA is working on Lahore Master Plan 2042 to develop Lahore as world class city. Approximately 250,000 people will use OLMT on daily basis and capacity will be increased to 500,000 passengers in future.
The total length of the project is 27.1 kilometer of which 25.4 km is elevated path and 1.72 km is underground. The operating speed of the OLMT will be 80 km per hour. The track will have 26 stations. It will start from Ali Town near Thokar Niaz Baig and will end in Dera Gujjran near Quaid E Azam Interchange of Lahore Ring Road.
OLMT is the right solution to reduce rising traffic on roads. It will help to convert Lahore into Green City with less pollution.
