Mangla Dam
Mangla Dam is spread over a huge area of land. The Mangla Dam is located in the Mirpur District of Azad Kashmir and is one of the biggest reservoirs of water in Pakistan.
Pakistan is producing a lot of electricity from this dam, that’s why it is a very important asset of the state. According to some recent stats, Mangla Dam is currently producing 1150 Megawatts and soon after a little expansion and development in the project lead to 1500 megawatt of Electricity.
The Mangla Dam has a height of about 147 meters and is 3140 meters in length. The construction of the project started in 1961 and completed in 1967.
Tarbela Dam
Tarbela Dam is the biggest dam in Pakistan. This dam is located in Haripur and Swabi District in KPK. The dam is contributing a lot to the power sector of the state. Moreover, it is equally beneficial for the locals as well.
Tarbela Dam is built on the height of 143 meters and the total length is about 2743 meters. Currently this dam is producing 5000 megawatt of electricity, but soon after completion of the latest extension phase, it will produce electricity of about 6300 megawatts.
The construction of the dam was started in the 1960s and completed in 1976. The area of the lake of Tarbela Dam is 250 square Kilometers.
Mirani Dam
The Mirani Dam is located in the province of Balochistan on the river of Gasht near Central Makran Range. This dam is also one of the biggest dams in Pakistan but it is not as famous as both discussed above. It is because of the location of the dam in less populated Balochistan.
The dam was constructed in the time period from 2002 to 2006. The dam is also very useful for providing the water to the area of Gwadar and Turbat. After the CPEC, the value of this place will increase and the places here will get renowned.
Warsak Dam
The Warsak Dam is located only 20 km from the city of Peshawar. This dam in KPK is built on the Kabul River and is also one of the biggest electric generation sources in the province.
The Warsak Dam was built in the year of 1960 but the electrical modern technology was installed in the year of 1980. The dam is currently capable of producing the electricity of 240 megawatts and the latest development plan will lead to the generation of electricity of about 525 megawatts. The dam is controlled by WAPDA and visitors can also enjoy the boating and fishing experience.
HUB Dam
The HUB Dam is located on the border between two provinces of Sindh and Balochistan. The dam is built on the Hub River. The Dam along with the electricity generation also is the biggest source of water supply for the Karachiites. The Dam was built in the time period of about 20 years in the time between 1963 to 1981. The dam is also under the supervision of WAPDA.
This is a big tourist attraction for the people in Karachi and can joy the facilities like fishing, swimming and overnight camping.
Rawal Dam
Rawal Dam is one of the biggest reservoirs of water in Pakistan and supplies the water in the twin city i.e. the capital city of Islamabad and the neighboring city Rawalpindi.
The Rawal Dam along with its benefits is a beautiful place to visit and visitors can enjoy the experience of boating and fishing. It is located close to margalla Hills and there is a beautiful park built across.
Gomal Zam Dam
Gomal Dam is built over the river of Gomal. The purpose of the river is irrigation, flood control and hydropower generation. This dam was constructed in the region of South Waziristan and it took 10 years for the completion of construction.
The construction was started in 2001 and was completed in 2011. It produces a total of 17.6 megawatts of electricity, however it is one of the very beautiful tourist attractions in the whole country.
