Pakistan is a country of a huge population of about 210 Million. Pakistan has a total of four provinces and all of them have different culture, taste, tradition and languages as well. Language is one of the identifiers of the nation and because of many nations living in the state of Pakistan and that’s why there are a lot of languages spoken in this state from the time of Independence. So for today we will talk about all the languages people use to speak in the state of Pakistan. We will, moreover, categorize them on the basis of the region they are spoken in.
Urdu (The National Language)
Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and a huge number of people in Pakistan and India. The urdu is a Turkish word itself which means language of camp. These languages result from intermingling of many languages and in the past it was also named as Hindi, Hindvi, Rekhta, Gujari, Urdu-e-Mualla.
12th century A.D. was the beginning era of this language and it kept growing with time. Urdu is now spoken by a huge number of people and is the national language of the 6th most populous country in the word. Ameer Khusro was the first poet of the language, however, Mirza Ghalib, Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal and Faiz Ahmad Faiz are considered as the best poets of the language.
Languages in Punjab
Punjab is the most populous province of Pakistan and has a lot of languages spoken there. Along with Punjabi the regional language, there are many other languages as well that speak in this language.
Punjabi
Punjabi is the language in Pakistan with the highest number of speakers. it’s speakers in Pakistan are even more than the National Language Urdu. It is obviously because of the high population in this region. People in India also speak Punjabi although Punjabiu in both regions is written using different scripts. Language has many dialects such as Hindko, Majhi, Pothohari, and Multani.
In Punjabi, there are a lot of poems and stories written. The famous poets of the Language are Baba Bulleh Shah and Mian Muhammad Buksh. The famous writings are Heer Ranjha, Soni Mahiwal and Sassi Panu.
Saraiki
Another Language spoken in the region of Punjab is Saraiki. He Saraiki is majorly spoken in the south of Punjab and it is also considered as a dialect of Punjabi.
Saraiki is a language spoken in Sindh as well. The Language of Saraiki is a blend of Punjabi and Sindhi languages. It is also written in all the scripts we use in Punjabi. It is also a reason it is considered a dialect of Punjabi.
Sindhi (Language in Sindh)
Sindhi is the most ancient language among all languages in Pakistan. The language has a very long history and in that time it developed and grew. Now this language is spoken by the whole province. The most famous poet of the Sindhi Language is Shah Abdul Lateef Bhattai. His work for the growth and development of these languages is appreciated all across the country.
The famous Dialects of this language are Vicholi, Lasi, Siroli, thari, Lari, Kachi, and Muslim Sindhi.
Pashto (Language in KPK)
In KPK, there majorly a lot of Pashtuns live there. So the most common language out there in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is Pashto. This language is spoken in the countries of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Iranians and Afghans have more people who speak Pashto. There are dialects in this language as well i.e. Northern Pashto, Central Pashto and Southern Pashto.
Balochi(Language in Balochistan)
Balochistan even being the biggest province dont have that number of Population. So the people speaking this language are also not in a wide majority like Punjabi. Although it is spoken over a wide area in Pakistan. Along with Balochistan, the language also got spoken in some regions in Iran and Afghanistan. This language also has a few dialects : Northern Balochi, Western Balochi, Eastern Balochi and Southern Balochi.
Hindko
Hindko is another popular language in Pakistan, not as popular as other provincial languages like , Sindhi, Pashto and Balochi but still very famous among some regions and tribes.
A few People consider this language as a dialect of Sindhi language and a few call it a dialect of Punjabi as well. However the work Hindko referred to as the language of the region of Sindh. The speakers of this language are known as Hindkowan People.
Brahui
Another spoken language in Pakistan is Brahui. Brahui is spoken in Balochistan in Pakistan and origin of this language is Iran. Along with these two countries, this language also got spoken in Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Turkmenistan, and UAE by the Brahui Communities.
