Parking Problems in Pakistan
Car usage and parking problems in Pakistan
Pakistani cities are over crowed due to the huge influx of human population, who are settling in cities in search of better employment opportunities and good educational & medical facilities. Housing societies and public places in Pakistan have severe parking problems. Old residential areas in all major cities of Pakistan have narrow roads and no parking facility is provided. Our public places like schools, hospitals, offices, shopping centers and Parks also have parking issues due to less parking spaces being provided. Developments in Pakistan could not accommodate the modern technological changes. In Pakistan, once bicycle was a common ride which was replaced by motorcycle. Now cars are replacing the motorcycles. What will happen, when majority of Pakistanis would own the cars?
Good examples of ample parking spaces in Pakistan
There are some housing schemes and public place in Pakistan that have ample parking facilities. Many housing societies have ample parking like DHA, Bahria Town, Citi Housing and Fazaia Housing. Similarly many public places have ample parking spaces like Shah Faisal Mosque Islamabad, Doctors Hospital Lahore, Punjab University Lahore, Fortress stadium Lahore, Jinnah Super Islamabad, Liberty Market Lahore and Hyperstar shopping center in Karachi.
Solutions of parking problems in Pakistan
Parking problems in Pakistan can be resolved by enforcing the strict laws to provide ample parking spaces in new housing schemes and public places. According to the Canadian standards, 1 car park space is required for 100 square feet of commercial space. For schools, hospitals and parks, 1 car park space is required for 10 visitors. Similarly, 1 car parking space is required for 2 bed room house or apartment. Pakistan should adopt these parking standards. Pakistan should adopt the futuristic development approach. Our public places and housing schemes should be developed to accommodate the future needs and technological changes. This way we can develop sustainable communities in Pakistan.
